Well, really, what would you expect? I certainly dont expect
kindergarteners to be able to read novels on the first day, either.
;-)

Not to knock a college education, but it's nothing more than
preparation for the real world. When you get your degree and enter the
real world, you're not up to speed. Not by a long shot. But, you are
prepared to learn and run with the new demands as best you can. Plus,
you have some hint of a clue, hopefully. But clues can be loaned and
earned on the job as well.

I don't have the reference handy, but many of the problems I remember related to technical, interpersonal, and collaborative skills. There were also issues with writing ability, if memory serves.
