There is no universal standard. Often, there isn't even a
single common standard across all divisions of the same
company.

At the risk of being cynical, I think this is in the "dream
on" category.

Hello All,

Is there a universal standard for notating a version?

I have seen it used anywhere from:

<majver>.<minver>.<hotfix>.<build>

version <majver>.<minver>.<hotfix>.<build>

v:<majver>.<minver>.<hotfix>.<build>

v.<majver>.<minver>.<hotfix>.<build>

v<majver>.<minver>.<hotfix>.<build>

V<majver>.<minver>.<hotfix>.<build>

v <majver>.<minver>.<hotfix>.<build>

V <majver>.<minver>.<hotfix>.<build>

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.
