I'm dying with my boots on. In fact, I'm taking an accounting program part time to start my 60's with a new career.

At some point everyone of us will be old, and some day
we will be too old. Too old to hit a double, too old
drive a car, and too old to be a technical writer.

Some day you might ask yourself how old am I? What are
my strengths and weaknesses? Can I still put in a
60-70 hour week and meet the latest emergency? Can I
use my wisdom to avoid emergencies?

When will I quit being a tech writer? Or, will I die
with my boots on?

How many of you have found age to be a factor in

While age discrimination is illegal, I have been
to a number of
interviews over the last couple of years where I
knew I wouldn't get
the job because nobody interviewing me was over
30. I'm not sure if
it was age discrimination as much as fitting into
the company's
culture. Maybe if I pierced my tongue and
eyebrows and got some
tattoos......
Ironically, in two of those cases, the company's
were bought by older,
more established firms who subsequently used my
services on a
contractual basis at a higher rate than the
original company could
offer...so, age does have it's benefits and at
least I have most of my
teeth.
