In terms of the documents I work on, a functional spec is generally a
high-level outline of the functions a system or product is expected to
have and is often used for marketing or product description purpose The
technical spec. is a very detailed document (in my case, down to the bit
level) and is used for system implementation purposes. And as you might
expect, the audiences are different (non-tech. vs tech.).

Hi:

Can anyone enlighten me as to what a "Technical Specification" is. I
know what a Functional Specification is - and the definition of such is
fairly standard across the industry. But what is a Technical
Specification?

>From what I have seen, quite frankly, it is a Functional Specification
that is so unfunctional that no one dares call it such. So, to call it
something, they give it the catch-all name of Techincal Specification.
But, of course, there may be other considerations that I am not aware
of.
