This reminds me of an incident long ago (though not so far way): I once had
an argument with another writer about whether or not to include battery
replacement instructions. My contention was that the audience included
combustion control people and they would not expect to replace batteries
(they were used to things that were powered by the system or had
super-whizzo battery packs, not plain old off-the-shelf AA batteries).

He won the battle; we finally decided to leave the battery replacement
instructions out.

We had a 50% return rate on these units. Why? People didn't know they could
replace the batteries themselves (including some of our own sales people).

The instructions were revised.

It's all about the audience and their expectations!
