This is more of an aside, than off-topic.
Whenever I apply for a job through Monster or Dice, I tend to just send my
resume and a very brief note to the respective recruiters. The response
rate has been 60%.
Lately, I've been cutting and pasting, as well as personalizing, my cover
letter in these emails. The response rate has risen to 100%.
Maybe I should have been doing this all along, but I used to think that
recruiters received so many responses in a day that they were simply too
busy to read e-cover letters.
