My three piles are best described as: (1) Wow, call right now,
(2) Revisit if nobody from (1) works out, and (3) Reject (nobody
but me ever seems to find badly written tech writer resumes
funny).

(1) consists of those candidates whose resumes grabbed my attention and impressed me in that crucial first few seconds'
scan, (3) consists of resumes so far off the mark that I can scarcely believe these people took the time to read the job description, and (2) is everyone else.

I'm going to assume that nobody who posts regularly to this
list is likely to be in (3). The better your cover and resume are at that first few seconds grab, the better your chances of getting into (1). So how confident is everyone with a long
resume about its 10-second grab potential?

It's been a few years since I waded through a pile of resumes, but the
last time I did, there were over 200, and I sorted them into 3 piles:
(1) Consider, (2) Reject, and (3) Too Funny Not to Share.
