It varies by region. In North Central California, from my experience and
understanding, $40 per hour for a contract is a good rate. The San
Francisco Bay Area garners about $10-$15 more per hour, generally. I've
seen rates get to the low $20s per hour on DICE, depending on what the
employer knew about technical writing.
