Personally, I prefer a professional but conversational voice. I write using "you" and "we." "You" is the designed audience for the work. "We" is the company I'm writing for. Example:

"We recommend that you create a rolling, three-month backup system for your Project-O database files."

When the audience is mixed (say for administrators and users) I specify one audience or the other only when the distinction is required.
