I guess it's time to go buy

This is a big problem. Lots of recruiters get a list of preferred software packages, write up a job description and focus only on that software. They are cluless as to the real skills for the job. When I got laid off, I had experience in the entire Adobe suite and the Microsoft suite, VB6, Mac and PC, HTML and XML. The real sticking point for me was Robohelp. The 15 years experience was completely eclipsed by one little program.

I kept getting jetisoned for not using robohelp, heck it is an HTML editor. I finally bought a book and downloaded the free 30 day trial. And I worked with it every day for the trial period. So now I know it and I put it on my resume.

Adobe has the same program. You can download fully function trial versions and learn the program. Check Amazon where you can get a good tutorial book and download and learn.
