I work at Google as a tech writer...

I think this is a good idea. Every search engine will have its own strengths and weaknesses. Also, regardless of the search, be specific as possible, look for exact phrases, and try some synonyms. Alas, the more you know about a subject, the better your search will be! If you know absolutely nothing, try a very broad search and then look through the top results, even if they aren't exactly what you want. By digging deeper, you may learn enough to make a good search.
