Historically speaking, witches were, indeed female: "A woman claiming or
popularly believed to possess magical powers and practice sorcery."
A warlock is a male practitioner of the same arts and sorcery: "A male
witch, sorcerer, wizard, or demon."
Today, however, the term "warlock" has fallen out of favor. Those who
could be described as witches, whether male or female, usually describe
themselves as Wiccan.
You will also hear the phrase "male witch" on TV news, especially around
Halloween!
