The original thread about abandoning XML was about conversion of Doxygen XML
output to DocBook, to gain some of the advantages inherent in being in a
well-supported XML standard.

Technically, that would be a matter of writing an XSL Transform to do the
job directly. That has been often discussed online, but so far as I know has
not been done in a publicly-accessible manner other, perhaps, than with
BoostBook.

However, there may be another way.

Doxygen also has beautiful LaTeX output--and there *are* several LaTex to
XML and even XML to DocBook converters already out there. For example:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=102457

http://www.gruniversal.de/main/index.php?m1=proj&m2=latex2db (page in
German)

In general, unless there is a tool built in your authoring program, XML
processing should be done prior to seeking to edit it. If your tool is Frame
and you wish to use the Frame DocBook DTD, then using a transform on the
Doxygen output first makes sense...and if you can't or don't want to do the
transform from Doxygen XML, then getting their by way of LaTeX may be the
ticket.
