Anthony,
Get your butt over to the unemployment office and file a claim,
IMMEDIATELY. I don't know about Texas, but in Illinois there is a
"waiting week" - a week you don't get an unemployment check, after
you've filed. If Texas is a work at will state, you shouldn't have a
problem qualifying for unemployment. On the surface, it looks like your
former employer was trying to buy you with what could be viewed as
severance pay. In Illinois, severance is non-qualifying income,
however, accrued vacation time is not.
While it's shocking that it happened, I think you're probably best out
of there. They certainly don't sound like anyone I'd want to work with.
