Academia is geared toward a certain kind of exact
language that requires layers of vocabulary, abstract
theories, and references to other publications. They
have no idea how to present this in a way that's also
engaging, so the result is a hash. I'm not sure
business logic would apply, but clearly many
professors could do a lot to improve their
presentations; the best don't seem to have this
problem.

Reading through the manual for a certain help system,
again, and finding it worse than useless, I have to
say that the same is true of technical writers.
