Yves, you are right. Writers call it copyreading, but it is a valuable service for engineering and QA.
Another useful skill is assembling a product glossary, which writers sometimes do when they start work at a new company. For a software product, assembling a glossary can uncover problems such as different software modules using different terms for the same thing.If not caught early, such problems can impede user learning.
