TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
In theory, yes. However, from the post it is fairly clear that
this new position/opportunity is not one of the poster's
previously established goals and is something that has been
presented more or less out of the blue. The questions asked
were all practical ones: can I do this job, will I have time to
do as much writing, will the job be more or less prone to
reduction, etc. However, the question posed by the poster's
manager was "what do you want," and nothing the poster
said gives me the slightest clue as to whether he/she will be
experiencing the slightest bit of enthusiasm or passion for
managing a techpubs group.
It's good to have goals, but maybe not so good if they're
so rigid that you aren't able to consider opportunities that
might fall a bit outside their scope.
