C+ Give your writers (and anybody else on your team) a weekly report.
For one thing, they'll appreciate being in the loop about what the rest of
your group is doing.
For another, they'll appreciate being in the loop about what surrounding
teams and projects are doing, what's slipping and sliding, what just became
screamingly important.
For another, they'll be tapping into the company gossip network, to whatever
extent is natural to them, so it helps to leaven the speculation and
innuendo with a more official summary that you've been getting via your own
up-line.
For another, making a summary for a different group (other than your
immediate boss) concentrates the mind in different ways and highlights
different priorities and possible areas of concern, when seen from their
perspective.
For another, the very necessity to filter info (in either direction) gives
you some perspective on what further advances into management are going to
entail... also you find out right now whether you can keep a secret... or
need to work on that skill.
> D. Don't "grab the reins." Don't grow pointy hair. Good luck!
Always good to keep in mind.
