Jess' a follow-up before I flee the country and a disclaimer up front -
whoever said that Word is a backwards application is so right in every
sense of the word!
As someone suggested offlist, I deleted every single header and footer
in my document, and starting from the last header/footer combination,
added them back in one section at a time, and I linked the required
sections only after adding at least one header/footer combination in a
section and guess what!
No more sirens/strobe light affects - all are in and very pretty and the
landscape pages have them across the page and the portrait pages are no
longer extending past the borders.
It does look beautiful now - and none of the pages that have a link to
an MS Excel document are jacked up either!
Thanks to whoever told me about this trick - I had so many generous
responses that I couldn't keep track of everyone's name, but you know
you are! A thousand thank yous!
