HI Suzette,

I'm working on manuals now for a company that has recently decided (after
over 10 years) that it needs to follow the corporate style guide.
Unfortunately, the style guide was written by marketing and addresses only
layout, and only for printed manuals. The problem is the content sucks. It
has been a difficult battle to introduce styles for content, such as
Microsoft or equivalent for any software related issues. Fortunately, they
pay me exceedingly well, so it makes the battles worthwhile.

So, ensure your style guide goes beyond the visual aspects and also
addresses such items such as "active versus passive voice," graphics,
procedures, technical reviews, etc....and try to keep marketing involved but
at a distance.
