Subject:I've landed! WAS: A semi-hard landing From:"Frank Ellifsen" <frank -dot- ellifsen -at- gmail -dot- com> To:techwr-l -at- lists -dot- techwr-l -dot- com Date:Thu, 10 May 2007 09:57:50 -0600
Just wanted to let everyone know that I've landed. The position is a solid
job with a good company. The company is a touch smaller than I'm used to,
and I get the privilege of being their very first technical writer, but it
looks good. Unfortunately, I'm taking a nice-sized step down in terms of pay
and benefits, but if I've learned something from my last job, it's that pay
and benefits aren't everything. Job satisfaction is much more important.
Plus, I have a review at 90 days that could/should lead to some changes on
the pay.
As far as I can tell, I'll be handling a wide range of tasks, not all
dealing directly with technical writing. That's fine with me. I like to have
a broad spectrum of duties to keep me interested in the job as a whole. The
job is also only 20 minutes from my home walking as opposed to 45 minutes
driving. With the cost of gas, that's a big bonus that I've calculated out
to be worth about $3500 a year in gas and mileage.
Thanks to everyone who offered their condolences, assistance, and whatever
else. Having never gone through that kind of experience, it was nice to see
how quickly techwr-l offered support.
