Spotting a mistake can be pretty helpful sometimes. A long time ago I
wrote a process manual - edited it, ran the spell check, ran through my
own list of "words not to be used even if tortured" list, reviewed it,
sent it to the reviewers and sent it out. It's lucky it was an internal
document, and most got a laugh out of my 14pt bold heading - Variable
Counts, well it's what it would have read had I included the letter o.
Apart from changing a few things in my editing process, kicking the
backsides of the reviewers, I also realized that you should never take the
dictionary of a spell checker for granted. I'd inherited the PC of the TW
I replaced, and he'd added some rather odd words to the dictionary. I now
delete the existing dictionary in any software I'll be using (if it's been
used before), and either use my own dictionary or reinstall the products
default dictionary.
Cheers,
Charlie.
I once thought I'd made a mistake...but I was mistaken.
