RE: My cropped graphics won't compress

Not to follow-up on Ed.'s comments again.  Sorry guy.  I have linked images
to Word documents.  In an ideal world that is nice solution.  Then I have
had managers tell me, "Oh, I made some changes to your document and now the
<whatever> won't work."  Oftentimes, the graphics are the "whatever" and
they get broken if they are not imbedded in the document.  

Think about it this way.  Companies use Word in part because they want
"everyone" to be able to edit the document.  When a company chooses Word for
desktop publishing, the author of the document needs to prepare the document
in such a way that it doesn't get broken by other users of the document.
They get broken anyway.  But the document must always work for the other
person unconditionally.  So we can't say, "this document will work if it is
in this folder with all of these linked graphics or if this network path to
the linked graphics is present on the system where the document is viewed."

Some managers, in my experience, do not feel productive unless they are
playing with other people's work.  Other managers know how to let people do
their jobs, but they are not usually the people that need to hire a
contractor to come in and fix a mess.

My Word documents used to get huge (file size-wise) because of screenshots.
This was not good, so to reduce the file size, I would crop the screenshot
in Paint, insert the cropped graphic into Word, and cut-and-paste the
graphic as a Picture because Word kept pasting as Bitmaps.  I think that the
newer versions of Word handle graphics differently because I don't need to
use my cut-and-past step anymore.
