Lisa Kickling:

Bravo. You know how to use "persist" correctly.
In the original post, the writer simply made an error.
Dancing on usage isn't a crime, just a shame.
No shame in pointing that out.

And I could loan you the $0.02 for a while, :-)

Persistence is an established technical concept in the data management
community and will assert itself in tech-speak in noun and verb forms.
Expect it. Rephrasing the verb "persist" would not be an
audience-friendly option. Instead, rephrase sentences so that "to
persist" is used intransitively as in the following.

"Once we have validated, or failed to validate our data, we need ensure
that the data persists. (Or at the very least we need to decide not to
have it persist.) We have a number of ways of enabling data to persist
depending on the persistence scope. For a single webform, the
information may persist and be redisplayed in the form input fields. Or
we may have data persist during a session if we want the data to remain
during they user's entire visit. We may even have data persisted to a
database for long term storage."

That'll be $0.02, please.
