TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'm reasonably confident, despite speculation to the contrary and being
well aware that even AP makes mistakes on deadline (I once spent a
summer as wire editor of the newspaper in Tyler, Texas), that we don't
have AP to blame for this. Far more likely that it was the "creativity"
of someone at KLTV. Here's the AP story:
Shouldn't the AP have editors to catch this? How important was the
article that it should have been sent out without some decent editing?
I imagine that the headline, "Six indicted for "cheese" heroin
distribution," probably warranted some hasty newsworthiness for "cheese
heroin" because that's a new term we should keep in mind if we hear
teens mention that they need "cheese." Perhaps the AP writers and
editors are little over-worked.
