I think it's unethical to deny the job to an "ideal" candidate simply
because he or she doesn't agree with your political views.
I agree with the person who noted that it sounds as though the group may
be a little too enmeshed. A new point of view could be invigorating. Are
you sure that you aren't mistaking his confidence (in his views) with
being intractable? Did he flatly state that there could be no other
reasonable viewpoint, or was he just self-assured?
That said, I'd also have to agree that, if the candidate brought up the
issue of politics uninvited, it could be a red flag.
I've often worked with people of varying political views, and it hasn't
had a negative effect on how well we work together. Political views have
no place in the office except around the water cooler, and they should
be left there when work resumes.
