TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
There are prep classes. Some are self study, and others are groups that
meet. I think the PMI site has some listings, if I remember correctly. If
you can, it would be good to do the prep course that PMI has listed.
There was also a test example that you can take online at the PMI site to
see what score you might expect and what areas might be weak in. I took
that, and it was very instructive. I ultimately decided that, although I've
been trained as a project manager, I really don't want to do that full time.
Managing documentation projects is enough for me.
Good luck!
