You should be fine with Visio 2007. I haven't tried it, so I can't say much
about it one way or the other. But each version has had the ability to save
back to earlier versions, so if you run into compatibility problems, you can
always do that.

On the other hand, Visio 2003 is a solid product (as solid as anything ever
gets from Microsoft anyway).

I am sorry about putting it here in this way, but what's the current
conventional wisdom for buying a copy of Visio? We use XP in the office and
few of us have Office 2007, so would be okay to buy Visio 2007? We use
FrameMaker 7.2 right now, too. [And won't move for a bit--that would require
planning, something we don't...er... get much time for.]

Am I being vague?

I know I can and should do an archive search, but my excuse is that I want
up-to-the-minute input...
