Hi Raj,

Word 101 for large documents (in no particular order):

1. "Maggie" the document to eliminate detritus in the final paragraph
mark. If you have multiple sections, Maggie each section.

2. Disable change tracking and accept all current changes.

3. Eliminate unused styles.

4. Eliminate manual formatting. Only use uniquely named style
definitions to format paragraphs and characters, and keep your styles
safe in a uniquely named template.

5. Add graphics only by using Insert>Picture>From File.

6. Minimize section breaks.

7. Make sure graphics are anchored, not floating.

8. Use frames instead of text boxes.

9. Format tables with table styles.

10. Avoid Master Documents.

11. Avoid auto-numbering. Use ListNum, AutoNum, and SEQ fields for
numbering.

12. Avoid auto-bullets. Create your own bulleted styles.

13. Avoid automatic updating of styles in all three of the following:
Format>Style>Modify
Tools>AutoCorrect>AutoFormat As You Type
Tools>Templates and Add-Ins.

14. Got a Gig of RAM? If not, get a Gig of RAM. Two Gigs for Word 2007.

15. Disable Fast Save, Background Save, and Auto-Save.

16. Disable Save Preview Picture.

17. Disable Automatically Save Version On Close.

18. Disable embedded fonts.

19. Minimize embedded OLE objects.

20. Avoid grouped objects in diagrams.

That's a start...

Good luck!
