Ron Hearn:

Copy? Manuscript? Those are the terms that you are looking for
if you mean what the author has written before any tags.
The "formatting" < HTML, XML, SGML, tags, MS-Word styles,
Framemaker Designer... > are all means of typesetting.
The result of combining copy & typesetting is a proof (webpage, PDF...).
Sure, these terms date back to paper publishing, but they apply to
the web too. I remember using them even for radio-broadcasting,
before copy got marked-up and became a script.

From _The Chicago Manual of Style_, 14th ed., section 3.8.
"Once the typesetting has been done, the edited typescript
or printout is referred to as dead manuscript, or dead copy.
The dead copy is sent to the author with the first proofs..."

Same process, whether your proofs are PDFs or dummy web pages.

Why reinvent the wheel? :-)

Regards,

YJ

My mind has gone blank. One of the managers has asked me what is the

term for the type of writing in which document content is created

separately from the formatting (Headings, etc) for the document. It's

not exactly single-source though single-source uses that approach.

Anyone?
