Congrats on becoming a telecommuter!
I worked from home F/T for many years - in my current job, I only work from
home 2 days a week. My advice is this:
- Treat your home office as a "real" office. Work, take coffee breaks,
lunch, etc. Keep smoking and/or drinking for breaks or else you will quickly
find yourself doing too much of both.
- Buy a really good ergonomic chair. I prefer the nice mesh ones with
lumbar support.
- Keep track of your hours so that you don't "overwork". The line
between work and home becomes quite blurred. Use the extra hours you bank to
justify time off during slower periods (afternoons at the beach, etc.)
- Make a point of going for walks during your breaks. It's easy to
overlook getting some physical activity. Sometimes days would go by when I
wouldn't even step outside. Not good.
- Keep up a social network - meet for coffee in the mornings, etc.
It's too easy to become isolated.
- Meet all deadlines - you don't need your boss doubting how much work
you're doing.
Enjoy being a telecommuter and brag lots!
