Many, if not most, executable files can be compressed--often to half
their original size or thereabouts. They still operate normally, but
simply don't take up so much room.
The best tool for the job is called UPX ("ultimate packer for
executables"). There are also GUI front ends for the tool that run on
Windows, although UPX itself is said to work with several other
operating systems including Linux.
This is what is normally used for the Portable Apps tools I mentioned
earlier, and it is especially good for a slow device such as flash
memory since less must be read to run the executable.
