I was always told that making a good first impression is a key part of
the interview process (both for interviewee _and_ interviewer). Showing
up late, making obvious mental mistakes, ignoring your appearance to the
extent of having a price tag still showing on your clothes? Yikes.

As an interviewer, I'd avoid mentioning any of those things, but I could
hardly avoid taking them into account when I'm deciding whether to go
any further with that candidate. (And for me, each of those things would
be negative modifiers, BTW.)

I'm just finishing a round of interviews, and most of the candidates
I've seen did their best to appear in a timely manner, dress
appropriately, and not to say things that would influence me against
them. One candidate, however, showed up late wearing what I can only
describe as "exercise clothes . . . on the way home from the gym". That
candidate didn't impress.
