OK - this is a doozie.

My company creates applications that run on Sharepoint servers (to leverage the document collaboration features). We are upgrading all of our stuff to MOSS 2007 (Microsoft Office combined with Sharepoint Server).

In the past I've created stand alone Web help systems that our users could access via a Help link in the GUI. We completely removed the help systems that came with Sharepoint and just provided our custom ones - to keep our users from getting confused about any SP features that they couldn't access.

2007 has a lot of groovey new things, one of which is a complex database-driven help system that is ultra-fancy, searchable, etc. And as far as we can tell we can't remove it. Hmpf!

So I am trying to figure out how to, at the very least, add my help topics to that database, so that our information comes up in the searches. Ultimately, we'd like to be able to remove or hide any of the out of the box topics that deal with features our users won't have access to.

No tech communicators are discussing this anywhere (that I can see). And only a few developers have looked into it. They mostly concluded, "Wow. Extending Sharepoint 2007 help is complex."

Help?
