Well that's a neat trick, but it needs to be applied each time a heading style is applied. I think that inserting an odd section break before every heading (or creating a macro with a shortcut key to insert an odd section break) may be a little cleaner, though.

But I like the clever use of autotext.

Search for "heading odd page". The post titled "How do I set a heading
format to "Odd" page (or section) break bef in Word Page Layout"
contains a clever solution using autotext entries.
