Isn't a person's career path based on the person and not the job that person
is performing? Now some careers are not in the direct path of a technical
writer, like a technical writer is not directly in line with be a Fire
Marshall, but there are many careers that can technical writers can aim
toward. Each career path will require its own training and personal
abilities and some paths will have greater demands than others.

Careers with smoother transitions include project management, business
management, business analysis, author, trainer, lecturer, business owner,
feasibility study report writer (good pay), and quite a few others, but it
really comes down to what a person wants to do in life.
