Hello, everyone.

Long-time lurker seeking advice. I'm moving from the DC area to
northern New Jersey (Essex county) at the end of the year. I have
some questions about the job market in the area:

1. A lot of the TW openings on the job boards are in the
pharmaceutical industry and require many years of experience with
functions and applications I've never even heard of. (My background
is in software and hardware documentation.) How would I would go
about breaking into the pharma industry? Do I even WANT to break into
the pharma industry? I get the impression that everything is
extremely regimented and regulated. Are the jobs in pharma any fun?
Or interesting? How's the pay?

2. Does anybody know anyone who works for AT&T Labs? (Either location
in NNJ.) How about Siemens? (Preferably the location in Florham
Park.) Any other leads for potential employers in engineering or R&D
within about 15 miles of Maplewood/South Orange?

3. The web site for the NY/NJ chapter of the STC refers to the
national STC site for job listings. Are there a significant number of
NY/NJ job postings on the national STC site? In other words, enough
to justify the cost of membership?

Thanks,
Katie Henry
