I read the subject and Super Mario Brothers came to mind. This device
won't allow me to shoot fireballs, will it? ;-)

Without knowing what it is that you're specifically talking about, all
I can say is that someone should flog you for even suggesting
"achieving power". ;-)

But seriously, can you add some context? Sometimes the best solution
requires more words. In the meantime:

"turning the device on"
"powering the device"

That's about all I have for you without more context.
