Where are you looking for these jobs? Since the dot-bomb
hit, there has been a marked reduction of jobs in the internet
and software industries, but there continues to be plenty of
documentation work in aircraft/aerospace, heavy equipment,
instrumentation, medical devices, etc., the old "brick and
mortar" industries that provided most of the writing jobs
in the pre-internet era. The jobs in these fields that get
posted to generic sites like Monster or even to the STC are
just the tip of the iceberg; most are posted to industry-
specific locations where they are more likely to be seen
by writers with the technical backgrounds they require.
