Ah, then you're being confronted with the "mysterious, it only happens to Excel files on this computer" syndrome.

If you haven't already, try what the fellow at the following site recommends (it's above and beyond the normal file association process, using advanced properties):

It's not affecting my laptop (XP Pro and Office Pro 2003) or my wife's
desktop (XP Home and Office Std 2003).
