I want to thank everyone who gave me suggestions to fix my Excel problem
(double-clicking an Excel spreadsheet would open Excel, but not load the
spreadsheet). I discovered the problem and now everything is hunky-dunky.

The suggestion to ensure Tools=>General=>Ignore Other Applications was
unchecked was the solution. A number of people told me to check it and I did
both with only Excel loaded, and with Excel and a spreadsheet loaded;
however, finding it wasn't as simple as we all figured.

When I opened Excel (program only), "Ignore Other Applications" was
unchecked. The box was also unchecked when I loaded several work-related
spreadsheets. However, when I loaded a spreadsheet that I use to track blood
sugar, there it was...CHECKED. This spreadsheet is over six months old and
is only used to monitor the affects of food/drinks on my glucose. (I'm a
Type II diabetic trying to keep things under control through diet changes
versus insulin injections.)

I never checked "Ignore Other Applications" on this or any other
spreadsheet, so I am unsure how that happened. Also, it was the only one
that I loaded that had that box checked. Everything is now working the way
it should now and I am a happy puppy....although, looking at that glucose
spreadsheet, it appears that I should not have had that extra shot of
Tequila on New Years Day to celebrate University of Michigan's win over
Florida in some obscure bowl game.....
