I performed a quick check of MS Word 2003 and found that Monotype Corsiva would be a good choice for a readable handwriting font. Check it out.

I agree with the recommendation for Comic Sans MS. I also find Lucida 
Calligraphy very readable - I'm partial to the Lucida fonts in general.
