Believe it or not, I once succeeded in convincing Management to allow me
to offer overtime to our night shift cleaning crew to come in early and
beta-test the procedures I had written for production and maintenance
day shift workers.

My guinea pigs were wonderful. They asked intelligent and useful
questions, made an honest effort but yelled for help when it was needed.
They were happy -- getting some extra money, off their feet for a while,
and being asked their opinions as if they mattered. As far as they were
concerned, it was all good!

Management also allowed me to provide snacks. We all had a good time
and we ended up with some of the best documentation I've ever produced.
