Personally I'm not keen under those circumstances.

I'd rather use 'Enter' as it's clearer.

Populate can suggest an automated action...or at least that's what we
tend to use it for.

documents?

For example,

1) Click the Actions button, then select Modify from the menu.
2) Populate the Approval Date:.
3) Populate the CR Number:.
