I find it hard to believe that nobody else mentioned
*my* favorite discussion-starter.
Actually someone may have by now; I get the daily
digest so I haven't seen today's volley yet - so
forgive me if someone else has beaten me to it.
Does the phrase "anal retentive" require a hyphen?
(True story: Several years ago, I was present at a
meeting in which five writers took up this question
and spent 45 minutes debating it.)
I guess "grammar war!" is as close as we tech comm
folks ever get to yelling "food fight!"
