I'm in an IT-ish sort of job (defense systems) so there must be a few
jobs left in IT. On the other hand, in the NJ-PA-DE area there is a
large concentration of medical writer openings. Long-range, I'd have
to ask you what geo area are you interested in? For instance, Silicon
Valley means something much different than Texas, as far as the type
of jobs offered now, and later.

I like your idea of database and programming focus. That will give you
backgorund skills that many writers don't have.
