Count me as another fairly happy Dell customer. Like John P, I've had a
couple of glitches, but they were handled acceptably.

I have one of the last IBM branded ThinkPad laptops and I've been happy
with it. The machine has been reliable and the support desk has been
terrific on the couple of occasions I needed to call them. On the
strength of this I recommended Lenovo to my brother and he went through
weeks of hell before managing to back out the transaction and buy
something else.

Back to Dell: I'm considering buying a PC before the XP cutoff. Can
anyone tell me how the product lines work now? From memory Dell used to
have a home/student-oriented brand and a dearer line aimed at
businesses. For the cheaper line they used whatever no-name components
were available from month to month at a good price. The business line
(Latitude?) used better components and cost a bit more because they
needed to be supported for longer.

Is the Vostro the cheap line or the business line or have they merged them?
