I'm not Gene, but I assumed that as well since I said the very same
thing. IIRC, it was then that my cv was brought up with surprise that
I'd even think this way. Yet here I am, still thinking this way, based
on everything I've seen and heard since starting work in the software
industry some 12 years ago. Never had anyone considered their work in
software development to be IT. They were always two very different
industries in the minds of those who were working in them. Software
serves a product need, and IT serves a human need.
