No, no, no. FORGET about hardware or software. The issue of whether it is
hardware or software is irrelevant.

If you have a software package named "IPR", and you write, "Launch IPR",
you are using "IPR" as a proper noun. Proper nouns are unique names of
specific individuals, whether animate or inanimate.

Were you to write "launch the IPR", then I would understand that you are
using "IPR" not as a proper noun identifying a specific object, but as
the name of a *class* of objects.
