Great, how much do we want to bet that it's going to turn 
out to be all based on the personal opinion of some teacher 
and textbook author who hasn't written an actual manual
since CP/M. :)

Flipping through some past docs I've produced, I seldom
lead off a section with a photo, line drawing or flowchart
graphic.  I usually don't use lead-in text before screencaps 
in SW instructions.  And in my last few online help projects 
I didn't even use screencaps.  But none of these have ever
been hard and fast "standards."  Sometimes one scheme
seems to work better, and sometimes a different one does.
